Do you or your loved ones wheeze, sneeze, cough or snore?
The Buteyko Breathing Method is a scientifically based method of retraining breathing habits to reverse and prevent the symptoms of asthma, snoring, sinusitis, allergies, many types of anxiety attacks and awide variety of immune system disorders. Rapidly effective for most clients, it is suitable for ages 5 years up.
Hyperventilation Syndrome is a reversible pattern of habitual overbreathing, causing an imbalance in the blood gases that has an impact on almost every system in the body. Depending on the degree of overbreathing, the long term consequences can range from mild sinusitis to severe asthma or even emphysema, as well as a lengthy list of immune system disorders.
The principles of Buteyko Breathing, developed by Professor Buteyko in the 50's and 60's, are simple and applied consistently often gets dramatic results that are easily maintained by the client. The exercises enable the client to deliberately reduce the level of overbreathing. When done consistently, over even a short time, this becomes accepted by the body as 'normal' and the new breathing pattern becomes automatic. This ensures the benefits are ongoing.
Clients need to actively participate, and do the prescribed breathing exercises regularly at least until healthy breathing has become automatic and symptoms are stabilised. Although it does take effort, it's much easier than being ill, stressed and tired! And once learnt, the exercises can be both relaxing and energising.
When clients are stable enough to consider decreasing medication, they are encouraged to do so under medical supervision.
Jen Tiller has used the method herself for the past 6 years, with dramatic and consistent results. Jen studied with Alexander Stalmatsky, author of 'Freedom from Asthma' who has worked with Professor Buteyko over several decades. Recently Jen has begun training NHS staff in the method for use in the hospital system.
